Overall Feelings. I had raced a Yamaha R6 (600cc’s, 120hp, 160 mph top speed) for a number of years, so moving to the BMW S1000rr (1000cc’s, 200+ horsepower, 180mph top speed) with Tom Wood Powersports I knew was going to be a steep learning curve.
If the CBR1000RR-R SP could hit 14500 rpm in top gear, we are talking a real speed of 223.7 mph. And forth gear it does its top speed pretty much. The long gearing is really unnecessary for the road but probably works well on long fast sweeping race tracks and ensures that the power is easier to get to the ground with less reliance on wheelie
1.) The S1000RR tachometer on the instrument panel is about spot-on accurate. 2.) The speedometer is also very accurate, reading only 1.6% high at 90 mph. I was able to derive the maximum speed in gears at 14,000 rpm as follows: 1st - 93 mph 2nd - 117 mph 3rd - 142 mph 4th - 163 mph 5th - 180 mph 6th - 194 mph
