Though meant as a reliable back-up, the development of the B-32 slowed to a crawl, mired in problems. Ultimately, 118 Dominators were built. During roughly the same time span, five aircraft plants turned out nearly 4,000 B-29s. Only a handful of B-32 Dominators made it into combat.
A B-52 bomber takes off from Andersen Air Force Base in Guam in support of Linebacker II. The U.S. Air Force is halfway through a years-long effort to reinvent its iconic B-52 bombers. Last week B-36 bombers were built at Convair’s plant in Dallas-Fort Worth. Convair built 388 of the giant bombers at a cost of $3.5 million each, but the Peacemaker kept the piece until it was replaced by the B-52 which with continuing upgrades could fly for 100 years. The first of two Monogram 1/72 B-36 models that Brudder Dick built. Note that this is NOT the Atlantis kit. The USAAF had an initial request of 100 of the new, outsize bombers before the completion and testing of prototypes was even accomplished. Eventually, 384 B-36's were built. Consolidated merged with Vultee in 1943 to become Convair.

Although aircraft production ran from 1984 to 1992, only 36 aircraft were built. Nineteen bombers were inherited by Ukraine upon the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and of those, eight were sold A total of 742 B-52s were built with the last, a B-52H S/N 61-0040, delivered in October 1962.
